Not your average mount — this one is family. The Moose was a wedding gift from Tonya’s dad, Mark, a master taxidermist who spent more than 30 years preserving wildlife with a deep respect for nature, craftsmanship, and art.
When Mike and Tonya married in 2007, Mark wanted to create something unforgettable. Working with a friend in Alaska, he carefully assembled this mount using salvaged pieces from three different moose during a time when money was tight but heart was full.
Tonya has always been a moose superfan — stuffed moose, ornaments, little figurines, the whole herd — so when this guy finally came home, it felt perfectly us. He waited in storage for years until the dream cabin became real in 2018. One of the first things brought up the mountain was the Moose, and Moose Mountain Lodge was born.
Mark sadly passed away in February 2026, which makes this piece even more meaningful. What hangs on the wall is more than décor — it is family history, a reflection of Mark’s talent, and a piece of his legacy that still lives here with us.
When you look up at the Moose, know that care, craft, and thoughtfulness went into him. We try to bring that same care into every part of this cabin.
